West Virginia Symphony to perform concert in Putnam County

CHARLESTON - The West Virginia Symphony Orchestra (WVSO) will be performing a special concert on Friday, March 26, at Forrest Burdette Memorial United Methodist Church as part of its Spring 2010 tour.

This concert features some of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's best loved works including his famous Overture to Lucio Silla, his Symphony No. 36 in C Major (The Linz) and his Violin Concerto No. 5 in A Major performed by WVSO audience favorite Corey Cerovsek.

Fresh off of touring and a recent WVSO performance in January, Cerovsek is a former child prodigy and internationally renowned violinist.

Tickets for the March 26 concert are $10 for adults and $5 for students and children and are available through the Clay Center Box Office at 304-561 -3570.

Tickets will be available on Wednesday, Feb. 17, are general admission and subject to availability.

Maestro Grant Cooper, Artistic Director & Conductor of the WVSO, will conduct this concert, which will take place at 7:30 p.m. at Forrest Burdette Memorial United Methodist Church at 2848 Putnam Avenue, Hurricane, WV 25526.

The West Virginia Symphony Orchestra is West Virginias premier performing arts organization, presenting more than 50 concerts annually to audiences throughout the Mountain State.

Programs include Symphonic, ZMM Pops and City National Bank Family Concert Series, performances by the Montclaire String Quartet, collaborations with the Charleston Ballet and other WV Arts Organizations, and a nationally award-winning education program.

The Symphony's home is the world-class Maier Foundation Performance Hall at the Clay Center for the Arts and Sciences in Charleston, WV.

Corey Cerovsek has performed to constant acclaim with conductors such as Zubin Mehta, Charles Dutoit, Michael Tilson Thomas, Neeme Jarvi, Andrew Litton, Yoel Levi, and Jesus Lopez-Cobos.

His recording of the complete Beethoven Violin Sonatas, made in 2006 with pianist Paavali Jumppanen for the Claves label, received numerous awards, including Gramophone Recommends, 5 Diapasons, 4 stars from Le Monde de la' Musique, Supersonic Pizzicato, and Fono Forum Stern des Monats.

His Corigliano Violin Sonata, with Andrew Russo on the Black Box label, was nominated for a 2006 Grammy Award. Corey Cerovsek Plays Wieniawski, made with pianist Katja Cerovsek for the Delos label, also received much critical acclaim. Other recordings have been released on the Delos, Black Box, Aguava New Music Studio, and Gala Records labels. He has been featured twice on NEC's Tonight Show with Johnny Carson and Jay Leno, on the David Frost Show in England, on the PBS special Musical Encounters and on CBS's Sunday Morning.
